Bishop Les Tomlinson celebrated the Chrism Mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral on March 28. The bishop blessed the oils that will be used during the ensuing year in the administration of the Sacraments, as well as in various consecrations and blessings.

Bishop Leslie Rogers Tomlinson was installed as the seventh Bishop of Sandhurst on March 1 during a two-hour installation Mass. More than 1500 people attended including 23 bishops and 90 priests.

Caritas launched its major fundraising project for the year, Project Compassion, in Bendigo's Hargreaves Mall on Ash Wednesday.

Grade 3 student at St Joseph’s Benalla, Mia Lawley, has been presented with a Young Australian Best Book Award (YABBA) award for story writing.  Mia entered her story, One Sad Little Boy, and was presented with her prize at Trinity Grammar School in Melbourne.  At the prize ceremony, she met several famous Australian authors and illustrators, including Morris Gleitzman, Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton, and was able to collect autographs after having morning tea. At the school’s assembly, Mia presented part of her prize, a huge box of books, to the school librarian, Rachel Heywood. Mia also won a box of books for herself.

On Wednesday, October 19, visiting Maltese Bishop of Gozo, Mario Grech, celebrated Mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bendigo, to honour his friend and countryman, Bishop Joe Grech.
